Rebuilding the Riverine Fleet (19 Jun 2007) By Andrew Scutro
- Staff writer Navy Times
Northrop Grumman's leading-edge navigation,
surveillance, network command and control systems into
this vessel. ACB’s design is 41 feet long with a
9-foot-11-inch beam and a draft of only 28 inches.
Powered by two Cummins QSC 8.3-liter, 540 HP
turbocharged diesel engines, the Joint Multi-mission
Expeditionary Craft has a top speed of 48 miles per
hour. With a crew of four, the new boat has room for
another two observers and, depending on the mission, can
also ferry a 14-member combat team or various cargoes up
rivers or streams. Patented hull is a mature
design engineered for exceptionally responsive
performance, safety, and survivability flotation. Hit a
log, hit a rock, tear the hull, stay afloat, stay alive.
Modified v-hull, reverse chine, and integrated flotation
chambers allow each boat to ride on top of the water
with incredible stability and a shock mitigated ride.
Combination of the hull engineering and the lightweight
design equates to superior fuel efficiency. |

Trinity Yachts
is a builder of high-end, large vessels mostly luxury
yachts. The announcement below is interesting in
several regards. First, Trinity is building a naval
craft, secondly it has built a USMI design, and lastly
the two patrol craft are being built in its New Orleans
yard. Trinity shifted its HQS and is building another
yard in Gulfport MS after Katrina hit the NOLA yard.
But no mention of the patrol craft on their website. |
