- Born Charleston, SC, 30 January 1940.
- Attended Charleston public schools and flunked out of MIT in January 1958 after one semester. Graduated from College of Charleston 1962 with a BS in English. (To get a BA I would have had to take Latin and Greek.)

December 1962 completed OCS.

January 1963 reported to EARLE B. HALL (APD 107) .

January 1965 reported to BJU-2 and made one Mediterranean cruise and one North Atlantic operation, as well as the 1965 Dominican Republic crisis.

November 1966 to November 1968, operations officer of HALEAKALA (AE 25) with additional duty as navigator for the last few months. Two WestPac cruises.

November 1968 - February 1971 (Not March as I mistakenly indicated on the article cover; it has been almost 32 years.) BSU-1: First Lieutenant; OIC PTF 13; OIC MST Danang; Training Officer; OIC Danang again.

March 1971 - June 1972 Assistant Engineering Officer (Engineering inspector) COMSCPAC. Passed over twice for LCDR.

July 1972 - February 1974, unsuccessful search for employer who needed an experienced PTF skipper with a BS in English.

February 1974 started at VA Regional Office, Columbia, SC, as claims examiner then as disability rating specialist from 1978.

Retired in September 1994 and have since kept myself as busy as I want to be as a department service officer and claims consultant for DAV.
